Barbara Martini is a Full Professor in Computer Networking and Security at Universitas Mercatorum (Italy) where she also serve as Director of the Deperatment  “Engineering and Sciences” and Coordinator of PhD Program “Big Data and Artificial Intelligence”. She is also  an Affiliate Professor with Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Italy).  After earning her Master Degree at University of Florence in Electronic Engineer in 1999, she worked as software designer and engineer in telecommunications industry for two large companies, Italtel and Marconi Communications (currently, Ericsson). From 2003 to 2022 she was with the Italian University Consortium for Telecommunication (CNIT), where, since 2009, she coordinated research activities network virtualization and orchestration in 5G, network control/management architectures and programmability, service platforms for networking, and security solutions for multi-domain networks. Her professional experience spans both academia and industry, allowing her to bridge cutting-edge research with real-world applications in networking and security.

Her current research interests focus primarily on SDN/NFV-based network management and 5G/6G architectures also relying on ML/AI, Intent-based Networking with advanced use of chatbots and LLMs, distributed learning in decentralized network environments with focus on manufacturing domain toward human-centered approach. 

Prof. Barbara Martini has co-authored over 120 papers in top-tier scientific journals and international conference proceedings. She has been actively involved in several national/EU research projects and has collaborated with industry partners, including Ericcson, ESA, ofter holding leading roles. Since 2018, she has been serving as Associate Editor for IEEE jounals since 2018, currently at IEEE Transaction on Network and Service Management. She has also been a member of the Organizing Commette member for several flagship IEEE conferences in networking since 2018. Recently, she has held key positions such as General chair at NetSoft 2023 and ICIN2024, and as Chair of NoF Steering Commettee.
