Matilde Giaccherini is an Assistant Professor at Mercatorum University and a Research Fellow at both CESifo (Economics of Digitization Area) and CEIS – Tor Vergata. Her academic journey began at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata,” where she earned her PhD in Economics in April 2018 with a dissertation in Applied Environmental Economics. Following her doctoral studies, she pursued postdoctoral research at CEIS until May 2024 and further broadened her international experience as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago.

Throughout her career, Matilde has contributed as a Teaching Assistant in Microeconomics, Economic Policy, and Macroeconomics at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Behavior and Consumption Theory at LUISS Guido Carli. Before joining CEIS, she collaborated with several national institutions—including the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies—as well as non-governmental organizations.

Her research examines the social costs of pollution, including air pollution and radiation exposure, with a particular focus on individual adherence. Since winning the EIEF Grant in 2019, she has expanded her research agenda to explore the impact of misinformation on vaccine preventable diseases.
